Exploring the psychiatric symptoms among people residing at flood affected areas of Kodagu district, Karnataka

IntroductionAs the global climate is undergoing significant changes, incidence of natural disasters various characters and intensity on rise. Many direct indirect mental health impacts have been observed as an aftermath these disasters. The study attempts to assess psychiatric symptoms prevalent among disaster-affected individuals, 4–6 months after impact.MethodsA community based cross-sectional survey was conducted a flood in Kodagu (Coorg) district Karnataka state. 171 randomly selected samples were assessed. Demographic details disaster experiences collected disorders evaluated. data entered into Microsoft Excel analyzed using SPSS version 23 software. descriptive presented percentages bar charts appropriately. Categorical tables tests for significance done appropriately.ResultsThe prevalence residents flood-affected areas 66.7%. major detected that Depression, Anxiety, Somatic disorders, Sleep problems Substance abuse. Leaving house during damage found most important factors influencing development symptoms.ConclusionThe Prevalence district, high hence more community-based activities should be designed by department address this problem. significantly higher people who stayed relief camps faced partial or complete their house. These identified prevent further illness.
